MATARAM- Collaboration between a university and other departments has been an important factor in recent years. With this, a university could get an outstanding achievement in the future. Prodi Tadris IPA Biologi proves that the department is aware and open-minded to collaborate with others. On Thursday, 24 August 2023, the head of the department, Dr. M. Harja Efendi, and a lecturer, Muhsinul Ihsan, S.Si., M.Sc., attempted the national symposium and groundbreaking of Pusat Koleksi Spesimen Keanekaragaman Hayati, organized by Biology Department, University of Mataram. At this moment, Prodi Tadris IPA Biologi discussed and collaborated with several organizations that were involved, such as Badan Riset Inovasi Nasional (BRIN), Universitas Hamzanwadi, Universitas Al-Azhar, etc.
This symposium is aimed to introduce the urgently of taxonomists and their contribution to the world. There were three honorable invited speakers, namely Pak Dr. Islamul Hadi from Mataram University, Pak Alex, Ph.D and Pak Tri, M.Si who come from BRIN Cibinong Bogor. The former speaker discussed in terms of the history of the scientific journey of Alfred Russel Wallace, who visited Lombok in 1856 and create the popular line, namely Wallacea Line that includes the islands in Lesser Sunda (Bali, Nusa Tenggara, Sulawesi, and Kalimantan). The second speaker, Pak Alex, Ph.D, obviously presented fascinating information regarding the profile of the Museum of Herbarium in Bogor and their collections for several decades. Furthermore, he explained more details about the function of information in a herbarium and gave some more examples of herbarium. In the middle of his lecture, he said that the number of taxonomists in Indonesia is even lower than the huge of plants that have to be identified and classified. The extraordinary information is continued to discuss by the last speaker, Pak Tri, M.Si, who illustrated the structure of zoology building to storage of animal samples. In addition, He also presented the up-to-date data about the mega-biodiversity of vertebrates and invertebrates. In general, all of the speakers suggest that academics should give huge attention to biodiversity and give it ago to identify it. It is pretty useful for the next generations.
In the future, Prodi Tadris IPA Biology has a big and exciting dream to make a center of innovative learning materials based on based on the local wisdom in Lesser Sunda Islands, particularly West Nusa Tenggara. This dream absolutely will happen as we have been doing this for several decades ago.
